At the closing ceremony of the 2012 Olympic Games in London, the world was shown the biggest and best of British music throughout the last century. Pioneering Acts such as Madness, The Who, Queen, Annie Lennox etc merging with more modern and upcoming acts such as Take That, Jessie J, Tine Tempah, Taio Cruz, One Direction and Emeli Sande and the accompaniment of acts such as world class Prima Ballerina Darcey Bussell and over 200 of the Royal Ballets most elite dancers, closed the Games with not just a bang, but a thermonuclear explosion!
However, for us, what excited us most was the use of Black cabs by The Spice Girls.
For their one off performance, the ladies were transported into the Olympic Arena and driven around the stage on custom made Black Cabs to their number one hits ‘Wannabe’ and ‘Spice Up Your Life’
The taxis themselves are a symbol of one the city’s most earliest forms of transport, the Hackney Cab, (where the term, Black Hack is derived from) In relation to our own tours, for years Belfast has played host to hundreds of these cabs, that ferry people to all parts of the city and beyond.
With the history of the city being so vitally intertwined with the history of the cabs, you will not find a tour anywhere else in the world that is conducted the way a Black Taxi/Cab tour is.
The vehicle is a truly unique and valuable symbol which will always be sought out by people from all over the world! And you don’t have to be a Spice Girl to share this experience!
