Overview

With sales worldwide, the award-winning work of George R.R Martin’s A Song Of Ice And Fire began filming in Northern Ireland back in 2009. After the fantastic response and success on both sides of the water with the first instalment of A Game Of Thrones, the HBO creators commissioned filming to continue and so this great and versatile country will be known as the real-life land of Westeros for the foreseeable future.

While you are on our tour you will get to see many of the key sites that are recognizable from the series. Giving fans a chance to get up close and experience the world of Westeros for themselves. The series has allowed us in Northern Ireland to showcase some of the most beautiful and spectacular sites known to man. This unique, natural landscape has allowed HBO to bring the world of George R.R.Martin’s work to a whole other level of cinematic wonder.

One of the most captivating sites along the North Coast which has really been put on the map is The Dark Hedges. Planted in the 18th Century, these fascinating Beech trees have grown over the years to almost intertwine with each other and are favourites with photographers and painters. It even has its own ghostly background, adding a further air of magical mystery to it. This no doubt added to its appeal in regard to the Game of Thrones producers and left viewers in awe with the closing shots in season two.

Aside from The Dark Hedges, other sites along the North Antrim Coast have been featured in the show such as Ballintoy Harbour and Dunluce Castle. These remarkable sites are so rich in versatility that they have been doubled up in episodes for many different scenes. When Theon Greyjoy first returns to the Iron Islands, we see the harbour in all its glory. Whereas on the opposite side of the Ballintoy, on a secluded little Beach, viewers can first see our own, great Liam Cunningham, who played Ser Davos Seaworth, wait on the shore with Stannis Baratheon.

Hardcore fans will be truly satisfied with their experience and will be able to step into this mystical world for themselves.
